Heart Disease,& it's Causes


The relationship of heart disease and diet has been the focus of research for over a century. More and more evidences link the consumption of unhealthy amounts and quality of fat to be one of the primary causes of heart disease. With heart disease as one of the leading causes of death around the world, health advocates are actively encouraging the public to practice a heart healthy diet. The primary principle of a heart healthy diet is to reduce the amount of fat and cholesterol intake in the body. Animal fat and organ meats are high in fats and cholesterol respectively, hence they should be avoided. However, it is important to consider that there are still healthy fat and cholesterol such as those found in fish. Foods like butter and margarine should be taken moderately as well. A heart healthy diet should not totally restrict the consumption of meat, as doing so will eliminate a stable protein and B vitamins source. There are low fat meats in the form of lean meat and fish, as well as protein alternatives in the form of legumes and soy products. Consumption of fruits and vegetables is heavily encouraged in a heart healthy diet. Aside from being rich in essential nutrients, these contain little or no fat and cholesterol. A heart healthy diet should also contain whole grains and foods rich in fiber, as these help in the absorption and elimination of circulating fats and cholesterol in the body.
