Acne Vulgaris - Is it Contagious ?

Acne vulgaris is a common type of skin disease which is characterized by pimples on face, chest and back. It is a very common phenomenon among the teens and particularly with girls when they reach the puberty stage and is caused by the clogging of the pores of skin with oils, dead skin cells and bacteria. Acne vulgaris is the common medical term for acne and is frequently used by the doctors and physicians.

Let’s get a brief idea how acne vulgaris occurs. Our skin consists of sebaceous gland which produces oil called serum and occurs along with sebaceous follicles. At puberty increased levels of androgens causes the gland to secrete too much of sebum which in terms combines with dead sticky cells and blocks the pores of skin resulting in production of acne.
It is a well known myth that acne vulgaris is contagious. Acne is never contagious, one can sit with a person eat, kiss, play and use his hanky. There is no dander in getting acne transferred from one person to another. The exact causes of acne vulgaris are still unknown but there are lots of probable situation in which acne can occur. Some of the causes responsible for acne are age due to hormonal changes, gender, diseases like hormonal disorder. Acne is also said to be heredity and it also frequently occurs when there is a rapid hormonal changes in the body like that during pregnancy and that during transition to puberty age. Diets and drugs are also some of the causes of acne. So utmost care should be taken to treat acne and a dermatologist should be consulted for this.
