Insulin - What is it Used For

A human body comprises of several hormones and enzymes. Insulin is one of the most important hormones which are released by the pancreas. Pancreases are a gland that releases digestive juice and it consists of several acicular cells which produces digestive enzymes.

The main work of insulin is to promote anabolism that is the building up of tissues and to inhibit catabolism which is the breaking down of the tissues particularly of muscles, liver and fat cells. Insulin is required by the cells of the body to remove waste products and carry glucose from the body. Insulin has a tendency to increase the rate of synthesis or the blending up of glycogen, fatty acids and proteins in our body. The most important feature of insulin is to increase the rate of absorption of glucose by the cells present in our body. It helps in decreasing the blood sugar level in our body by decreasing the concentration of glucose and converting into glycogen which is a starch like substance and is stored in the liver. Insulin also helps in promoting the entry of other sugars and amino acids in the muscle cells and fat cells. Insulin is also responsible for total quantity of proteins in our body.

Lack of insulin in body causes a disease known as diabetics’ mellitus, a disease which is characterized by high blood sugar level and some times excess of diabetics’ causes’ kidney and many other inter organs failure. Deficiency of insulin causes sweet sweat and urine in body and in order to compensate the insulin percentage insulin injections are taken by patients.
