Vitamin Guarding Against High Cholesterol

Cholesterol is a combination of steroid and alcohol found in cell membranes of the body tissues. It is also found in the blood, with the average amount varying according to the age. It plays a major role in the biochemical processes of the body. Still, the main talks about cholesterol are concentrated around its association with the cardiovascular diseases.

All foods that contain animal fat contain cholesterol. Although even a vegan diet can have traces of cholesterol. Also, it can also be generated by the liver by acting on food metabolites. This can lead to slight temporary variations in cholesterol levels in the human blood. The cholesterol is a very useful compound for the human body, including playing an important role in the metabolic activities involving the fat soluble vitamins.

High cholesterol concentrations in the blood can lead to unwanted troubles, primarily concerning the cardiovascular system. Many of the common vitamins can help against the high cholesterol level though. Vitamin C, pectin, lecithin, EPA, Niacin, Phytosterols and Garlic have been discovered to have anti- high cholesterol properties in them.
Vitamin C can reduce the development of cholesterol deposit in the blood arteries. Lecithin too has been found to be affective against the fat coagulation of the blood vessels with regular intake.
Pectin acts against the high cholesterol by lowering its levels. EPA on the other hand does the same function along with helping a major drop in the level of triglycerides. Niacin is the vitamin that is the most wonderful of them all. It plays a very critical role in energy production, hormone synthesis and gene expression. It also is seen to lower the high cholesterol levels considerably.
