Animal Allergy | Domestic Allergy Treatment Tips

Allergy caused by pets and animals are natural. This happens when the animal or pet is not properly vaccinated. Domestic pets and animals in zoo, sanctuaries, and Animal Park are expected to be vaccinated but which is not be expected in stray animals. In such cases, it is apt to be detached from those animals and any infections from those should be treated with appropriate medication and allergic tests.

The most popular tests involved in diagnosing animal allergy is scratch test which involves applying suspected allergens into the skin. The skin is scratched before applying the allergens, then after, observing the super infection caused by it. This test is performed usually on the fore arm, upper arm, or upper back.
RAST- radio allegro sorbent test is a renowned blood test in which sample of blood is mixed with suspected allergen. The level of antibody formation is measured with the help of increased number of Immunoglobulin E that indicates allergic reaction. Whereas allergies arising out of pet and domestic animals can be treated by following measures:
  • Using HEPA filter, electrostatic filter to clean the air.
  • The pet should be brushed daily to remove dander and mites, and washed every week with appropriate soaps and shampoo meant for pet purpose.
  • Person who are susceptible to allergy are separated from the animal once for all.
  • Oral, nasal and topical decongestants are used to prevent nasal congestion that leading to asthma.
  • Above all, the pet or domestic animal should be properly vaccinated periodically.
