Preventing Spots Caused By Birth Control

Birth control pills function by supplying your body with a consistent level of hormones. Bleeding will occur if the level of hormones in your body drops, and this is how you are still able to have your period once a month while taking them. On the week of your period, the birth control pills you take are actually placebo’s, nothing but sugar pills. This causes the hormone levels in your body to drop off, and your cycle begins as usual. If you are experiencing spotting on your off weeks, this signals a drop in hormone levels. There are things you can do to prevent this.
The most important thing to prevent spotting on off weeks is to always follow the directions on the birth control pill. You must take the pill at exactly the same time every day in order to maintain a consistent horsmone level. If your birth control is taken at different times each day, this will cause the hormone levels in your body to fluctuate, and trigger spotting. The longer you take your birth control pill, the more it works to thin out the lining of your uterus, making your periods lighter and spotting disappear. This does not happen overnight, and it may take some time for spotting to disappear completely. If you have issues with consistent spotting it may be related to what time of day you are taking your birth control. Taking the pill at night will ensure it is not fighting with other stomach contents for absorption.
This is just one basic suggestion, however reducing your intake of alcohol and tobacco can also help prevent spotting. Of course, reducing stress is an important factor as well
